Workout of the day

As the new year began, I was a bit dismayed by how unfit I had become. Ever since I tore up my ACL/PCL and stopped going to the gym, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain a regular exercise routine. To help myself get back into shape, I created a simple web app that generates a 30-minute full-body workout of the day (WOD).

The app allows users to select their desired difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and then generates a randomized workout consisting of various exercises targeting different muscle groups. Since I have kettlebells and a pull-up bar at home, the generated workouts primarily utilize these pieces of equipment along with bodyweight exercises. I limit the total time to 30 minutes, since on my WFH weeks, I can get this done in between meetings, ensuring a balanced and time effective workout. The WOD generator is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, making it easy for anyone to get started on their fitness journey.

Give it a shot!

Lesser son of greater sires ...

Our family has a tradition of watching the entire Hobbit trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy together, every winter break. We look forward to hanging out together, and taking our time rewatching the epic films. There are several parallels between the Tolkien universe and the modern world, which we discuss during our viewing sessions. Bilbo's resourcefulness and adventurous spirit, Gandalf's stoic wisdom, Aragon's humility and leadership, Samwise's loyalty and courage - these are the qualities we admire most in our favorite characters.

Yet, besides the virtuous heroes, one character remains just as memorable. Christopher Lee's portrayal of Saruman. His delivery of condescending insults are just as fun to hear as any other iconic line from the movies. One such line is when Saruman delivers a scathing insult to Théoden :

What is the house of Rohan but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and rats roll on the floor with the dogs? The victory at Helm's Deep does not belong to you, Théoden, horsemaster! You are a lesser son of greater sires.

Inspired by this memorable quote, I decided to create a Saruman-style insult generator. The generator constructs insults in the same style as Saruman's, using a combination of pre-defined phrases and random selections. The result is a humorous and creative insult that captures the essence of Saruman's condescending tone.

Feel free to try it out and generate your own Saruman-style insults!
